Mountain Climbers

Mountain climbers are the 3rd of the abdominal exercises we have been discussing.

Mountain climbersMountain climbers 2

Mountain climbers are done by beginning in a pushup position and then you start shuffling your feet in and out so that your knees are moving in under your chest and then back out to the starting position. It kind of resembles climbing a mountain but you are doing it flat on the floor.

If you want an advanced version, you can also shuffle your hands 8-10 inches forward and backward at the same time you do the leg movements. This really makes it a full body exercise and MUCH more difficult than standard mountain climbers and I suggest you don’t try them until you have mastered the original.

7 Minute Muscle

I just received this article from Jon Benson and wanted to pass it on. It’s about building muscle and burning body fat at the same time.

“I remember a friendly argument with Burn the Fat author Tom Venuto. It all started when I told Tom how I was eating and training for my last peak. A peak is where you lower your body fat and try to maintain as much muscle mass as possible.

“There’s just no way I could ever get in shape eating and training like that,” says Tom. “Sure you could man…what are you, a mutant?” Tom fires back, then me, then Tom….and so it goes. (I really didn’t call Tom a mutant. That was creative liberty.)

So why are so many fitness pros like Tom freaked out about my training and nutrition plan? Simple: I claim it burns fat while building muscle at the same time. Every time I read an article by some doctor or expert claiming it’s “biologically impossible” to gain lean muscle mass on a hypocaloric diet (a diet low in calories) I just laugh.

I do more than make claims–I have proved this to be true many times. I’ve had my body fat hydrostatically measured during several peaks. In all but one I showed an increase of muscle mass and a decrease of body fat during a 12-16 week period. The one time I didn’t show an increase in muscle mass when was I was training the most in the gym. That may not make sense right now, but it will in a moment.”

Front Squats

Here is a version of the squat that we all know so well that will actually help you get a rock-hard body from head to toe, along with gaining ripped abs.

The Front Squat

front squatripped abs exercise

The front squat requires you to hold the barbell in front, rather than in back as a normal squat.

The front squat brings the abs more into play as it requires stability due to the more upright position as compared with back squats. While it’s basically an lower body exercise, it is terrific for incorporating core strength and stability into the squatting movement. If you’re doing front squats right, you’ll feel a hard contraction in your abs during these.

Here are some questions and answers you need to know if you are looking for 6 Pack Abs.
