Last year I added what is often referred to as an Australian pull-up to my exercise routine. This form of pullup is done by hanging below a bar while you keep your heels in contact with the ground. You are actually more horizontal than vertical.

If you cannot do a regular pullup, the Australian pullup is a good way to start as it builds your strength up. Once you can do a couple sets of 8 – 10 reps, you should be able to begin knocking out some regular pull ups or chin ups.

However, even if you are able to do regular pull ups, I recommend adding these to your routine. It puts more of an emphasis on the rear delts and the muscles of your middle-back, which being targeted that much doing these the regular way. I find my outside triceps muscle stands out after a few sets of these.

I use the Perfect Pullup
to do my workout. Using the rotating handle I rotate my hands as I pull myself up and it targets the biceps as well.

But you can easily do these by laying a bar across 2 very sturdy chairs and laying under it.

I have to say I am impressed with the customer service at Perfect Pullup. I strained my shoulder and my neck trying to use the ab straps. Did this on 3 different occasions. Yes – I am stubborn. So I contacted the people at Perfect Pullup and explained the situation and asked if they had any advice.

I was contacted by one of their reps who said she would ask the trainers. After the weekend, she got back to me and the guy who invented the unit said to have me take a video of myself using the ab straps and they would view it and see if I was doing anything wrong that might be causing the problem.

Now to me, that is seriously good service. I have not yet sent a video as I don’t want to hurt again , but probably will. I doubt it is my technique. More likely my body getting older. But we’ll see.

I really like the equipment they put out and would not hesitate to recommend it. The customer service is icing on the cake.

OK. This morning I did my perfect pullups and during my sets, I added a set of 21′s. Basically here is how it is done.

I did the Austrailian pullup. That’s where the bar is lowered and you lay under it and do chin ups. I started with 7 chin ups – going halfway up. Then immediate added 7 chin ups form the halfway positin to the top position. I followed that with 7 complete pull ups. Now with the Perfect Pullup, you can adjust your position under the bar. I had to do so in order to finish these completely as my arms were screaming for mercy.

You can do these 21′s with a lot of your strength training exercises. Try them.

I want to give you an honest review of the Perfect Pullup. I use it and love it but let me give you a total overview.

I have been using Perfect Pullup for 3 weeks now. I do the Australian pull ups for my routine and follow these with pull ups using the handles with the bar in the top position. In 3 weeks I have doubled the number of regular chin ups I can do. Getting back to what I could do way back when I was in the army. The Australian pull ups look easy on t.v. but are anything but. The premise being they will build your strength so you can do regular pull ups and they do that.

One of the big reasons I bought this was the ab straps. I wanted to work my abs thoroughly and felt hanging knee ups and leg raises would do the trick. Now the straps do allow you to perform many more than you can do hanging onto the bar, but they hurt! They are not comfortable and they hurt the arms, shoulders and my back. I’m a bit disappointed with this aspect of it.

They also said you get an installation template and I did not. It said install the top brackets and measure down for the bottom ones. Not that hard but a template would definitely have been nice.

Having said that, I love the unit. I feel pumped and can feel the strength in my upper body. I do these pull ups 3 times a week with push ups on my exercise ball on 3 alternating days. Sundays off. I recommend this. I have it hanging in a doorway in our hallway and on pull up days, I do regular pull ups during the day as well.

My Perfect Pullup review is based on actual usage and I am not a distributor. I just really like it.
